Voster Muchenje

Voster Muchenje is a Research Professor at the University of Fort Hare. He is the DST/NRF SARChI Chair in Meat Science co-holder and a DST/NRF CoE (Food Security) research associate. He is an NRF C1 rated scientist. He has successfully supervised 12 post-doctoral fellows, 12 PhD, 44 MSc and several Honours students. Among his awards are the South African Society for Animal Science (SASAS) President’s Award for exceptional contribution to animal science and livestock industry (2012), the UFH VC’s Senior Researcher Excellence Award (2014) and the UFH Emerging Researcher Award (2010). He sits on several editorial boards of peer-reviewed journals and was also appointed as the Managing Guest Editor for the journal, Food Research International, special issue on Food and Nutrition Security. He is also the Editor-In-Chief of the South African Journal of Animal Science (SAJAS). He has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, presented over 70 conference papers, including keynote addresses (e.g. the ASSAf/SAYAS Young Scientists Conference in 2014) and at the recently held Next Einstein Forum Global Conference in Senegal  (March 2016)), and more than seven TV and radio presentations. He serves on several boards including: the SASAS Council; ASSAf Agriculture Education and Training Panel; ASSAf Scholarly Publishing Standing Committee, NRF evaluation panels, and Fort Cox College of Agriculture and Forestry Council.

Voster has served as SAYAS Co-Chair and is currently a member of the South African Academy of Science (ASSAf).
