Penny Moore is a Reader and DST/NRF South African Research Chair of Virus-Host Dynamics at the University of the Witwatersrand and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, and Research Associate at CAPRISA, University of KwaZulu-Natal. She obtained her MSc in Microbiology at WITS, studying gastroenteritis-associated adenoviruses. This was followed by a PhD in Virology (Medicine) at the University of London (studying the Hepatitis B virus) in 2003 before returning to South Africa to join NICD/WITS. Her current research focuses on HIV broadly neutralizing antibodies and their interplay with the evolving virus. Moore currently supervises 7 PhD students and is funded through the South African Medical Research Council, the National Research Foundation/Department of Science and Technology and the NIH. She serves as a member of the SANTHE Scientific Advisory Board.
