
Marlien Pieters is a Professor at the Centre of Excellence for Nutrition, North-West University, where she heads up the Nutrition and Haemostasis sub-programme. Following the completion of her PhD in 2002, she did a post-doctoral fellowship at the Free University of Amsterdam. She has a C2 NRF rating. She heads an international task force on the standardisation of fibrin network structure methodology and was elected as a co-Chair of the FXIII and Fibrinogen Scientific and Standardisation Sub-committee of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis in July 2013. In 2014, she became a Board Member of the International Fibrinogen Research Society. She was awarded the AU-TWAS Young Scientists National Award in the area of Earth and Life Sciences in 2015.
