The International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation under the auspices of UNESCO (ISTIC) in collaboration with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO and Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) will be organising the International Forum on “Harnessing Women’s Talents in Science, Technology and Innovation” which will be held on 25-26 May 2015 at Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Director-General of UNESCO, H.E. Madam Irina Bokova has been invited to officiate the opening of the forum and also to give a keynote address. This program is also part of the overall ISTIC-UNESCO International Conference/Forum/Seminar on UN Post 2015 Development Agenda which will take place from 25-27 May 2015. This forum is organised in response to the one of the recommendations of the High-Level International Roundtable organised by ISTIC in 2012 which focused on how to increase women leaders at scientific institutes and large technology companies.
The main objectives of the forum are to share perspectives in devising strategies to address the imbalance of women participation at the leadership level in science, technology and engineering in the business and government sectors as well as prospects for the future. The duration is one and half days and both international and local speakers from various sectors of science and technology will be invited. It is targeted that 100-120 participants will attend this forum.
The forum will take the structure of key note addresses and panel discussions. This will enable participants to share perspectives in devising strategies to address issues regarding the imbalance of women representation in science, technology and engineering particularly at higher management level in the business and government sectors as well as future prospects. It is expected that the Forum will conclude with a set of recommendations for stake holders.
